There are many different factors to consider to secure the quality and final effect of customized items, including metal crafts like medals, coins, keychains, lapel pins, and badges. A key decision at the beginning of production is choosing the logo presentation on the mould. There are generally three different presentation ways: 2D, 3D, and mask-like die.

2D - Two-Dimension Design

This method is ideal for logos with vibrant colors or for projects with a limited budget. A 2D mould features distinct raised and recessed metal areas separated by sharp, straight lines, without any curved or beveled transitions. For more complexity, different levels can be incorporated, a technique known as 2D with multi-levels.

3D - Three-Dimension Design

A 3D design is perfect for creating vivid, detailed representations of subjects like buildings, characters, or animals, especially when no color fill is needed. While it also uses raised and recessed metal, the transitions are gradual, curved, or beveled, creating a seamless, sculpted look without clear borders. The mould charge for a 3D design is typically 1.5 to 2 times more expensive than for a 2D design.

Recessed 3D: A variation of the 3D style, recessed 3D places the sculpted area lower than the main raised border, creating an inset effect. The highest point of the 3D element is either level with or below the surrounding border. This technique is commonly used for items that will be filled with hard enamel or imitation hard enamel. Like standard 3D, it can also incorporate multiple levels.

Mask-Like Design (Male and Female Design)

As the name suggests, this technique produces a product that resembles a mask, requiring a matched set of "male" and "female" molds. The back of the item is a mirror-opposite impression of the front, creating a hollowed-out effect. This type of mould is complex and difficult to create, making it 4 to 6 times more costly than standard molds. It can be applied to both 2D and 3D designs.
